Bor de Kock

Hi! My name is Bor and I'm an assistant professor (universitetslektor) of cryptology at NTNU – the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.
I am located within the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology.

Research

My primary research interest is Post-Quantum Cryptography, specifically Key Exchange in its various forms – but I'm always excited about working with other cryptographic topics. Some papers out there:

Education

I did my PhD at NTNU, with Colin Boyd as my main supervisor and Kristian Gjøsteen co-supervising. My dissertation is called From Lattice Crypto to Lættis Krypto: Various Approaches to Post-Quantum Key Exchange; the defense took place in June 2023. You can find it in NTNU Open, but some of the papers have undergone minor revisions since and the links above will most likely be more up-to-date.

In Spring 2018 I completed a Master of Science degree from Eindhoven University of Technology. I followed the Information Security Technology track (then called "The TRU/e Master") in the Computer Science and Engineering program. My Master's thesis A Non-Interactive Key Exchange based on Ring-Learning With Errors was written at TNO, under supervision of Tanja Lange. I also spent spring 2017 at the University of Pennsylvania, working with Nadia Heninger on a cryptology research project.

Before that I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, also from TU Eindhoven. I majored in Computer Science & Engineering with a minor in linguistics at the University of Amsterdam.

Other activities

At TU Eindhoven I have been an elected member of the departmental council (at the department of Mathematics and Computer Science) and the university council, for student party Groep-één. At NTNU in Trondheim I was an elected member of the faculty board (at the Faculty of Information Technology and Electical Engineering).

Before I moved to Norway I was on the provincial board of Jonge Socialisten in de PvdA, the youth organization of the Dutch Labour Party and have been involved in GEWIS, the student union for mathematicians and computer scientists, where I have also served as a full-time board member for a year. Current hobbies include things like amateur radio, knitting and playing (classical) upright bass .
